What Skills are Practiced While Crafting?
If you’re a regular reader of Fun-A-Day, then you probably already know I am a huge fan of process art for kids. I typically opt for open-ended art activities over highly directed crafts with rigid instructions. That said, there’s a time and place for everything.
The only time crafting isn’t ideal is when adults step in and insist that students make “cookie-cutter” crafts. That leaves no room for creativity and individuality.
But crafting, if done with students in mind, certainly has a place in the early education classroom. Us adults just have to let the kids create as they see fit. In fact, if done the “right” way, there are a ton of benefits of crafting with kids!
Here are a few skills they can practice with crafting:
- Color identification
- Directional terms
- Fine motor skills
- Hand strengthening
- Scissor skills
- Following simple directions
- Following multi-step directions
- Shapes
On top of practicing all of these skills (and more), kids can learn about certain topics through their crafts. I like to base our crafts around the learning objectives of each unit. Here are a few topics the kids can learn about with the Easter crafts for preschoolers:

Materials for Your Easter-Themed Crafts
The key to any successful preschool or kindergarten activity is preparation! And one of the most important components of preparation is making sure you have everything you need on hand.

Easter Crafts for Preschoolers
As I was sorting through Easter crafts to share with you all, I found lots of favorites. So, with that in mind, I decided to split this list up. First, I’ll go over classic Easter egg crafts. Then there are some really cute animal-themed Easter crafts I want to share with you. Think bunnies, chicks, and baby birds!
Easter Egg Crafts
Here, you’ll find the blueprints for some timeless and classic Easter egg crafts.
An Easter egg handprint craft allows kids the opportunity to use their creativity, explore their senses, and make an adorable Easter keepsake.
Learn about recycling by making a fun and functional egg carton Easter basket. The kids love getting to show off their creations at all the local Easter egg hunts.
Conduct an experiment in color theory with a simple coffee filter Easter egg craft. Get a little water bottle sensory play in along the way.
Lay out several types of paper for the kids to choose from, some with an Easter motif and others that are brightly-colored. Then kids can customize the pattern and layout for their own easy paper Easter wreath.

These animal crafts are perfect for Easter! But they can be used for lots of other themes throughout the spring season as well.

This popsicle stick baby chick makes such a cute and festive Easter decor! You’ll love seeing how each student puts their own unique touches to this simple craft.
These Easter yarn crafts for kids are nice little keepsakes for the kids to take home. And, not to mention, the yarn-wrapped chicks and carrots are a blast to make.
Put together a few Easter bunny headband crafts with the kids. Then let them use them for hours of fun dramatic play scenarios.
